Trustees’ Report for the year ending 31st March 20011

The continuing difficult economic situation has been a major concern for Trustees of the Kelly Family Charitable Trust over the last financial year. The Trustees have kept a very close eye on the financial health of the Trust and through the close management of our advisers the Trust has been able to maintain its distribution to charities, a vital necessity in view of the widespread decrease of funding to charities by Councils experienced during this period. This has been reflected by the amount of grant applications received, which has risen sharply from an average of 60-70 per grant round to a record high of 320 for the March grant round, thus creating a considerable increase in the workload of the Grants Administrator.

The pattern of distribution was discussed and it was agreed where appropriate to give first consideration to smaller charities with less funding opportunities who fulfil certain criteria such as sustainability, lack of other charities offering a similar service, and number of people being helped.

During the financial year being reported the Trust was pleased to be able to distribute £115,450 to the following charities:

  • 3D Drumchapel
  • Chorley and Ribblesdale
  • Ebbw Vale Contact Centre
  • Edinburgh Young Carers
  • Family Matters York
  • Haven
  • Homelink
  • HomeStart Pendle and Ribble
  • PAWS for Kids
  • Relate Brighton
  • Resources for Autism
  • Shepherds Bush Family Centre
  • Sign Post
  • South Cheshire CLASP
  • St Andrews Childrens’ Society
  • Sunderland AFC
  • Surrey Family Link
  • Time for Families
  • Tryangle
  • Walsall Bereavement Fund

The Trust continues to receive Progress Reports from successful applicants on how grants have been used, and uses these as a reference point when considering further requests for funding. The website continues to be updated and revised, and the structure and clarity of the application and progress report forms are assessed regularly and amended when felt necessary.

ON BEHALF OF THE TRUSTEES

Jennifer Kelly, Chairman Of Trustees
